The short version: one essential cookie remembers your theme. Analytics and advertising cookies only load if you click "Accept all" in our cookie banner — choose "Necessary only" and neither one ever runs. Either way, every tool works exactly the same.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store. They let a site remember information between page loads and visits — a theme preference, for instance, or an anonymous identifier used to count unique visitors.
This policy also covers equivalent technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage, which serve similar purposes.
2. Essential cookies
These are needed for the site to function as you would expect, and cannot be switched off through our interface.
- Theme preference — remembers whether you chose the light or dark appearance, so the site does not flash the wrong one on your next visit.
- Security and load balancing — set by our hosting provider to route requests and protect against abuse.
3. Analytics cookies — require consent
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages and tools people find useful. This tells us what to improve and what to build next.
These cookies are not set until you choose "Accept all" in the cookie banner. If you choose "Necessary only", the Google Analytics script is never loaded, and no analytics cookie is set. Where it does run, data is aggregated and not used to identify you individually.
4. Advertising cookies — require consent
This site is funded by display advertising through Google AdSense. Like analytics, AdSense only loads if you choose "Accept all" in the cookie banner — choosing "Necessary only" means the AdSense script never loads and no advertising cookie is set (you may still see fewer or no adverts as a result).
Where it does run, Google and its advertising partners may set cookies to measure advert performance and to show adverts relevant to your interests based on your browsing across sites. These cookies are set by the advertising partner rather than by us, and are governed by that partner's own privacy policy. You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google's Ads Settings or at www.aboutads.info.
5. What cookies we never use
We do not use cookies or browser storage to record anything you enter into a tool. Your text, files and results are held in memory for as long as the page is open and are discarded when you close or refresh it.
This is a deliberate design decision, and it is why the typing tools have no history, the focus writing surface has no autosave, and the password generator keeps no record of what it produced.
6. Managing cookies
The simplest way to manage analytics and advertising cookies on this site is the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page, which reopens the consent banner so you can change your choice at any time.
Every major browser also lets you view, delete and block cookies through its own settings, usually under Privacy or Site Settings. You can block all cookies, block third-party cookies only, or clear existing ones.
Blocking analytics and advertising cookies will not prevent you using any tool on this site. Blocking all cookies means your theme preference will not be remembered between visits — that is the only functional difference you will notice.
7. Changes to this policy
If we add or change the cookies we use, we will update this page and revise the date shown at the top.
